Coleman Smith is a world-renowned cross-genre violinist. Coleman, a 30-plus-year veteran of the violin, blends an understanding of classical, jazz, folk, country, and bluegrass elements into his performances and workshops. Coleman started playing the violin at 3 years old. In his youth he traveled across the country studying various styles of fiddle music and competing in some of the nation’s most prestigious fiddle contests, sharing the stage with The Texas Playboys, Asleep At The Wheel, Tommy Allsup, and Tony Booth. At the age of 17 Coleman was awarded a Presidential scholarship to the music department at Marywood University where he studied music performance and minored in music pedagogy. This has allowed him to build a reputation for being one of the leading educators/performers within the acoustics music scene in both Colorado and beyond. Coleman is also a founding member of the Colorado-based Bluegrass group Rapidgrass, and also regularly performs with Yonder Mountain String Band, David Lawrence & the Spoonful, and The Bluegrass Journeymen. Coleman has had the honor of sharing the stage with a plethora of incredible musicians including Leftover Salmon, Dierks Bently, Roy Williams & The Human Hands, Billy Cardine, Darol Anger, Jeff Austin Band, Pheobe Hunt & The Gatherers, Grant Farm, and most recently Billy Strings. He has over a decade of experience both teaching and running music education programs in the US as well as abroad in India and Europe.  In 2018 Coleman moved his music school Coletrain Music Academy from Decatur, Texas to Buena Vista, Colorado where he serves as the Music Director and a full-time educator teaching beginner to advanced violin, guitar, bass, and mandolin lessons.
